Monitoring Unit
Collects system status data from ECU via serial communications and hardwired inputs as well as engine and power car status data via hardwired analogue and digital inputs (on external antenna) to produce statistical and alarm 'black box' data.
Main components: GPS, GSM, project-specific software, interface circuitry.
Digital Control Systems for Rail Traction
Control systems for diesel-electric and diesel-hydraulic locomotive of HEINZMANN and RE are characterised by precise speed governing and stable and reliable operation. Their compact and robustly designed hardware components are adapted to the harsh environmental conditions in locomotives. HEINZMANN locomotive control systems are installed worldwide, in both passenger and freight trains, and have been chosen by leading locomotive manufacturer for retrofitting.
EFI Control of Locomotive Drives
HEINZMANN control systems for locomotives with EFI feature precise speed governing and stable and reliable operation. Depending on application, they provide the required governing, protection and monitoring functions. In diesel-electric locomotives, they combine speed governing of the prime engine and a load control of a traction generator (AC/DC) – for maximal performance with variable excitation control.
Viking Control Panel
Traction control panel with Viking35 ECU, performing the following core functionality:
- Speed governing
- Start interlocks
- Engine auxiliaries control during starting/running/stopping conditions
- 1st and 2nd stage engine protection
- Overspeed protection
- Independent engine shutdown by separate protection module
Viking Traction Control System
The Viking Traction Control unit is designed for the railway environment and houses the following main components:
- Viking Digital Controller ECU
- Speed switch pcb
- Protections module
- Interface circuitry
The engine protection provided by Viking Traction solutions provides de-rating with respect to measured parameters; this helps to ensure that the locomotive can continue to operate safely even if a fault is detected. As an additional feature Viking traction can interface with remote monitoring; thus allowing operational problems to be viewed and diagnosed at the depot.
Power Unit
Provides regulated 28 VDC, 300 W power supply output for the traction control and monitoring units, derived from a power car supply input.
Protects components from power supply surges and transients in accordance with RIA12 requirements
Includes a back up battery for short periods of loss of main power.
PEGASOS traction control system
The PEGASOS digital control systems are proven in numerous railway applications. The HEINZMANN HELENOS control unit DC 2-02 forms the core of the system in combination with a choice of HEINZMANN actuators. Further system components for diesel-electric locomotives are:
- Interface panel containing DC/DC converter for supply voltages > 24 VDC
- Locomotive interface
- Sensors for temperature and pressure
- Complete cable harness
- Junction box
- HEINZMANN configuration software DcDesk
Diesel-hydraulic locomotives with up to 24 VDC supply don’t require additional equipment and can omit potential separation. Optional are input/output extension units and CAN bus interface.
PEGASOS Control Panel
The PEGASOS controller is a modular electronic system including:
- digital controller DC 2-02
- interface with excitation signal amplifier module and optional
I/O extension units for analog and digital signals - DC/DC converter (24-110 VDC)
- optional CAN bus interface
All inputs and outputs are opto-isolated.
