Oil Mist Separators and Blow-by Filter Technology

Over the decades, diesel engines were a symbol of uncompromising performance, reliability and economy. The technological advancements in new generations of diesel engines have put a great deal of pressure on operators of older engines in all types of application as they strive to keep pace with the higher efficiency and better operating characteristics of newer units without significant investments. HEINZMANN has developed a flexible and cost-efficient retrofit solution to address this issue.

Converting a conventional, plug-in pump based injection system to E-PPN does not require any special effort. Only minor modifications to the engine itself are generally required. The electronically controlled injection valve can be adapted to practically any fuel injection pump using corresponding adapters. A large power range up to 350 kW per cylinder is covered. Due to the modified connection geometry, only the high-pressure pipe has to be adapted. The injector remains unchanged. The solution is suitable for a wide range of different engines thanks to the high system flexibility.

Advantages of Conversion to E-PPN

An extension of the existing injection system with E-PPN valves combined with the latest generation of controllers enables all the advantages of electronically controlled injection and extensive diagnostic capabilities to be enjoyed on older engines. An overview of the most important advantages:

  • Reduction in fuel consumption and pollutant emissions
  • Extended options for injection design for combustion optimisation
  • Improvement of load change behaviour
  • Reduction in smoke generation
  • Enhanced engine monitoring
  • LAVINIA E-PPN Control Unit
  • E-PPN Control Unit MVC 01-24
  • Speed sensors

LAVINIA E-PPN Control Unit

HEINZMANN can provide a universal, electromagnetically actuated fuel control valve for diesel engines. It is used to precisely determine the fuel injection timing and quantity. As it has been designed as a module, it can be easily combined with existing high-pressure pumps and injectors from a wide range of manufacturers, negating the need for any major changes to the diesel engine. It comprises a complete extension kit for mechanical diesel fuel injection systems with individual plug-in pumps.

LAVINIA E PPN Control Valve

  • Enables the injection quantity and timing to be controlled electronically
  • Injection timing depends on the speed/load
  • Possibility to switch off the cylinders when idling or operating at low loads
  • Cylinder balancing
  • Up to 350 kW per cylinder
  • Up to 1600 bar system pressure
  • Suitable for retrofits and for new engines
  • Can be adapted to different fuel pump designs

E-PPN Control Unit MVC 01-24

The E-PPN control unit is based on the reliable, tried-and-tested DARDANOS solenoid valve control system. The MVC 01-24 is HEINZMANN’s most powerful electronic fuel control system and can actuate up to 24 cylinders. It features many inputs and outputs, making it easy to use on almost any diesel engine. Up to seven precise injections can be performed per cylinder and stroke. The large number of I/Os enables optimum engine operation and monitoring.

Technical data

  • Power supply: 15 - 33 VDC (nom. 24 VDC)
  • Injection boost current max./hold: max. 30 A / hold 18 A
  • Ambient Temperature: -40 ... 80 °C / -40 ... 125 °C with cooling
  • Permissible ambient humidity: 95 % at 55 °C
  • Vibration: 10-24 Hz 2 mm / 25-64 Hz 0,24 m/s / 65-2000 Hz 9 g
  • Shock level: 30 g 11 ms - half sine wave
  • EMC: EN 61000-4-2/-3/-4/-6
  • Degree of protection: IP6K9K
  • Weight: approx. 8,5 kg

Speed sensors

Both inductive sensors and Hall sensors are available with different lengths and thread sizes. Thanks to their robust design, inductive sensors are ideal for use in harsh ambient conditions.
Compared to inductive sensors, the advantage of Hall sensors is that the output signal is independent of the speed and the distance from the sensor.
